ACTIVITY OVERVIEW

It is important to be current on the issue of human trafficking to identify victims accurately and promptly. Comprehensive trauma informed care with the effective use of screening tools will enable evidence-based quality care to victims. A trusting relationship between the victim and health care provider is essential to meet the health needs of the victim.  Applying Porges Polyvagal Theory assists in establishing safety.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This independent self-study activity is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, midwives and other healthcare professionals.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the educational activity, the learner should be able to:

  • Identify the impactors of societal and individual vulnerabilities that lead to human trafficking.
  • Distinguish differences between sex and labor trafficking.
  • Apply Polyvagal theory of safety to a clinical encounter.
  • Perform screening tools and comprehensive examinations, make referrals and provide resources to victims.
  • Describe hidden and invisible “at risk” exploited victims.
  • Identify areas in need of research and development in the field of human trafficking.

METHOD OF PARTICIPATION

To obtain a certificate of completion, a score of 80% or better on the post-test is required. Please proceed with the activity until you have successfully completed this program, answered all test questions, completed the post-test and evaluation, and have received a digital copy of your certificate.
