Sourav Poddar, MD FAMSSM FAAFP

Sourav K. Poddar, MD is a nationally recognized sports medicine physician, educator, and researcher who serves as Chief of Primary Sports Medicine and Associate Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He is also Chief Medical Officer for the University of Colorado Buffaloes and has served as a consultant for numerous professional teams and elite athletes during his career.
Dr. Poddar completed his undergraduate studies in biochemistry at Rice University, earned his medical degree with honors from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, and completed both his Family Medicine residency and Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship at the University of Colorado.
A leader in sports medicine for more than two decades, Dr. Poddar has held numerous national leadership roles with the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), NCAA sports medicine committees, and national concussion and athlete-safety task forces. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for AMSSM. His contributions to research, education, and athlete health have earned him multiple honors, including the prestigious Neer Award from the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and an inaugural AOSSM 12th Man Award.
Dr. Poddar has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and national presentations focused on sports injuries, concussion management, athlete safety, and orthopedic sports medicine. He remains actively involved in clinical care, research, medical education, and advancing the health and performance of athletes at all levels.
